WD Elements 1 TB External Hard Drive

Price : £50.00

I recently purchased a WD Elements 1 TB hard drive in black. This was due to requiring more storage for many different types of data, mainly films and music. In the box you get the drive itself, a USB cable and the power adaptor.

My experience on a whole with this device has been good. It has done exactly what I wanted it to do – store my data. I have currently got a large ammount of files backed up on the device, including a full backup of my laptop, which I recently changed operating systems on. The design of the device is very nice, it is not overly large compared to many similar 1 TB drives, and it is as far as I can tell completely silent. I have it sat in my bedroom turned on all of the time and it doesn’t bother me at all.

Unfortunaetly this device (Or at least mine) has a large downfall. Unfortunaetly WD decided to install a plug with a removeable set of pins, so that if you go abroad you can purchase a different pin set for the hard drive. This may sound a good idea, but for me it is precisely the reason I have only been able to give the device a three out of five stars. The problem is the pins don’t slide into complete contact with the electric contacts on the transformer. Everytime I plug in the hard drive, I get a series of electric crackling noises, often accompanied with the device not starting. I discovered that after a bit of wiggling about the drive does eventually come on.

I think that this drive is good value for money and is a nice product, however the WD plug has let it down badly.
